RESEARCH SEMINAR IN OPTIMALITY THEORY Burzio This seminar aims to look at the ways in which knowledge of language in the domains of phonology and morphology can be said to have a statistical or numerical basis and explore the possible consequences for formal theories, and the OT framework in particular. Current topics in optimality theory, taken from areas such as phonology, syntax, acquisition and learnability, computational and psychological issues in processing, and relations to neural networks and cognitive theory.
