VISUAL REALITY (3) Bakker   Limit 12 Freshmen by Permission of Instructor Only Creative insights in any field arise from non-linear thinking.  This course is designed to get students to “think outside the box.” In art, “Realism” is a simulation of visual reality, but art can also simulate alternative realities, those realities or truths that exist only in daydreams, nightmares or your imagination. Using a variety of media, students are asked to solve problems to which there is no one correct answer.

INTRODUCTION TO WESTERN CLASSICAL MUSIC (3) Levy Limit 20 per section Students will learn aural strategies to focus their listening, as well as vocabulary, cultural and historical context for music of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th century periods.  Composers studied will include Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, Debussy, Schoenberg, and Stravinsky.
