PRE-MODERN KOREAN LITERATURE IN TRANSLATION (3) Rhee   Readings include selections across various traditional genres, from the native songs of the Silla period to short poems written in Chinese, to memoirs and excerpts of p'ansori-novels written in the vernacular. Throughout the course, we will critically discuss the notion of belated modernity in Korea, the relation of language to community, and the combined role of orality and performance in the literature of the so-called Hermit Kingdom.
