Letter from the Director:

Dear Prospective Student:

After serving 13 years as the Director and Assistant Dean for Admissions at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, I had the opportunity to start a new Post-Baccalaureate Program at the undergraduate campus. From the perspective of my experience in medical school admissions, I observed that the best prepared students attended premedical programs that had five main features. These qualities, enumerated below, constituted the cornerstone of the post-bac program I wanted to develop at Johns Hopkins.

  1. Attract a group of talented students with strong academic records.
  2. Provide them with a rigorous premedical curriculum by integrating them within the regular undergraduate program as full-time students.
  3. Engage them in activities that connect their study of science with relevant medical experience in areas such as tutorials with medical school faculty, a mini-medical school lecture series and seminar, a "journal club", structured hospital internships and volunteer activities.
  4. Develop a spirit of community within the group through activities that promote sharing, helping, and teamwork rather than an atmosphere of negative competition that often plagues premedical students.

Provide extensive, personalized advising services that encourage students to strive for excellence and to be well prepared for success as applicants to highly regarded medical schools.

Seven years have passed since the Post-Bac Program began, and I am pleased to say that our students have not only met, but surpassed the expectations I had. So far, all of our applicants to medical have been admitted. It has been a pleasure and honor to work with each student!

Please look through this website to learn more about our students, the academic program, opportunities to learn about medicine, and the comprehensive advising resources that are available to you. Thank you for your interest in the Johns Hopkins Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program. We hope you will consider joining us for your premedical studies.

Sincerely,

David M. Trabilsy, Director
