Special Events - Orientation
The transition from high school to college is
often a confusing and challenging experience for students and parents
alike. Students are new to the environment and, for the most part,
to one another; thus, the changes in lifestyle and habit that often
occur make adjustment a year-long process. At Johns Hopkins, it
is our hope that new students and parents will find the services
and resources of the University helpful in making this adjustment.
Orientation
for new students will be Friday, August 31 through Tuesday, September 4, 2007.
Watch the Orientation web site for more details.
Freshman move-in will take place on Friday, August 31 through Sunday,
September 2 depending on
housing assignments.
International freshman move-in wil take place on Thursday, August 30, 2007.
Orientation is organized and run by undergraduate volunteers who spend the spring
and summer planning Orientation programs. It is a time for freshmen
to settle into their new home, to meet the people around them, and
to learn about all the resources Hopkins has to offer. There is
a wide variety of social and informational events prepared by the
University staff and by hundreds of student volunteers.
Your specific
move-in day will be scheduled by the Orientation staff. Your son
or daughter should expect to receive detailed information on Moving-In
and other Orientation programs toward the end of June. Parents of
new students are invited to participate in the Parents Program (date to be determined),
a series of lectures and information sessions designed to address
parents concerns about university life. Our goal is to give
parents the information they need to help their students make the
transition from high school to college, as well as to help parents
make the transitions themselves.
