Summary of Alcohol Education Activities and Alcohol Support Services Sponsored by Homewood Student Affairs

  • Variety of programs and awareness activities for undergraduates and the campus community conducted on a continuous basis by the Office of Education for Health and Wellness (conducted throughout the academic year.

    includes programs for campus groups, awareness days, newsletters and publicity materials.

  • Alcohol and substance abuse education for all residential life student staff through their training program (conducted semi-annually)

  • Alcohol and substance abuse education for all orientation student advisor staff through their training program (conducted annually)

  • Alcohol and substance abuse education for all fraternity and sorority pledges through their training program (conducted annually)

  • Alcohol education for fraternity and sorority members through IFC-sponsored programs, programs sponsored by nationals, and attendance at national conferences (conducted intermittently throughout year)

  • Alcohol education for resident students conducted through Residential Life-sponsored programs

    includes Thursday series, RA programs, RAB events

  • Education relating to role of alcohol in sexual assaults in programs and awareness activities conducted by undergraduate sexual assault peer educator group

  • Training on how to manage activities/events with alcohol for student union event managers and E-Level staff

  • Substance abuse counselor on staff of Counseling and Student Development Center

    provides individual and group counseling

  • Referral to substance abuse counselor by discipline system of any student with disciplinary offense which relates to alcohol, in addition to appropriate sanctions

  • Referral to counselor or other appropriate educational intervention for any resident student written up more than once for alcohol violation, in addition to appropriate sanctions

  • Alcohol task force convened initially in fall 1996 to address concerns about alcohol use on the "Beach" expanded to review, evaluate and recommend changes regarding all policies and procedures involving alcohol and other drugs
