Smoking is prohibited inside all facilities owned, leased, or operated by The Johns Hopkins University in the contiguous United States, including (but not limited to) such space as classrooms, general and residence halls, laboratories, studios, open and private offices, corridors, dining areas, restrooms and common areas. This prohibition also includes all vehicles owned, leased, or operated by the University. The president, deans, and/or directors may also designate, with appropriate signage, certain outdoor areas -- especially entrance ways -- smoke- free.
To effect adherence, members of the Hopkins community are encouraged to directly and politely inform those unaware of the policy, or remind those in disregard of it. If this approach and effort is unsuccessful, the individual in violation of this policy will be brought to the attention of the dean, director, senior staff member or other person in charge for further discussion and progressive counseling. Those who still do not comply will face corrective action consistent with the nature and seriousness of the continuing violations.
