The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. on the upper quadrangle at the Homewood campus of the university at 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.

Details: No special credentialing is anticipated, but we would appreciate knowing you intend to come so we can hold sufficient space in the media section. Call the contacts listed above; also, please call if you would like directions to campus faxed to you. The site will be under a tent and will not be changed in case of bad weather. A mult box will be available.

Other notes: Sen. Mikulski, who has a niece and a nephew in the graduating class, and Queen Sirikit are among five persons who will be awarded the honorary degree of doctor of humane letters.

The other recipients:

  • Chung Ju Yung, founder and honorary chairman, Hyundai Business Group.
  • Ted Koppel, anchor, ABC News "Nightline."
  • Lucile P. Leone, former assistant surgeon general and first chief nurse of the U.S. Public Health Service.

The total number of degrees, certificates and diplomas awarded is expected to be 4,389. Of those, 1,068 are bachelor's degrees, 2,818 are master's degrees and 452 are doctoral or medical.

A separate diploma distribution ceremony for the 777 graduating seniors in the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the same location as the morning commencement.
