Details: |
At his passing on Dec. 24, 1873, Mr. Hopkins
left $7 million in his will to establish the university and
Johns Hopkins Hospital. At the time, it was the nation's
largest-ever philanthropic bequest. Annually, a group of
Johns Hopkins employees meet at his grave on Christmas Eve
to honor the man who vision and generosity created what is
now one of the world's great universities and academic
medical centers. The brief, informal service is organized
by Ross Jones, vice president and secretary of the
university. |
