Latting Named Admissions Director at Johns Hopkins

John F. Latting, former senior associate director of undergraduate admissions at California Institute of Technology, has been appointed director of undergraduate admissions at the Homewood campus of The Johns Hopkins University.

Latting is responsible for recruiting and admitting the freshman class and undergraduate transfer students for the university’s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering.

"We are very excited to have John head up the admissions team. He comes to Hopkins with a solid admissions background and broad experience at highly selective institutions," said Susan Boswell, dean of student life. “We are confident that the Admissions Office will continue to flourish under his leadership.”

Latting had worked at Caltech since 1994, first as assistant then associate director before he was promoted to senior associate director in 1999. Among other responsibilities, he managed the selection of all Caltech undergraduates and directed recruitment of international students and transfers. He has also worked in admissions at Stanford University, where he focused on admission of both athletes and international students.

Latting earned a Ph.D. in 1996 from the education policy and management research program at the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Education. He graduated from Stanford in 1987 and also earned a master of arts degree from Berkeley in 1993.
