Germany's Foreign Minister to Speak at Hopkins Institute
U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.) will formally introduce Dr. Kinkel, who has been vice-chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany since 1993. Dr. Kinkel's discussion will be titled "Foreign Policy in a New Era: Forging a Transatlantic Approach."
The event offers the institute an opportunity to reflect on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II and German- American relations past and present. The legacy of occupation, the Marshall Plan and the founding of the two German Republics in 1949 are among the subjects experts at AICGS are studying.
Dr. Kinkel joined Germany's Foreign Office in 1974 as head of administration staff. In 1979, he was appointed president of the Federal Intelligence Service; he was named federal minister of foreign affairs in 1992. He is also chairman of the Free Democratic Party.
The lecture is the 14th in the Mars Distinguished Speakers Series, which is sponsored by Mars, Inc.
