Journalist to Speak at School of Engineering ConvocationThe event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the Mudd Hall lobby. The title of Stussman's lecture is "Engineering Transformations: Today and Tomorrow." He will explore the image and boundaries of the engineering profession as viewed from public and professional perspectives. He will examine the impact these views have on the industry, and will also investigate a number of major structural changes and how they affect professional and public relationships. Stussman, a former Los Angeles newspaper police and court reporter, is an award-winning journalist who served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Navy's Seabees. He was appointed editor- in-chief of Engineering News-Record in 1989, and oversees all editorial operations of the magazine. His work takes him to Europe, the Middle East and the Far East, where he covers finance, politics, companies, the environment and civil engineering projects. He serves on the board of directors of the Civil Engineer Corps/Seabee Foundation, and is a judge for the American Consulting Engineers Council, the Construction Innovation Forum and the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Stussman holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge. He resides in New Jersey.
