Middle and High School Teams Will Test Skills Saturday in Two Events at Homewood Campus
Students from Maryland middle and high schools will converge on the Homewood campus of The Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, April 5, to compete in two events that will test their science and engineering skills.
The university's Whiting School of Engineering will conduct its second Robotics System Challenge, in which 22 teams, each composed of two or three Maryland middle and high school students, will compete in tasks such as programming robots to maneuver through a maze, cross a series of gates or locate "tumors." At the same time, the engineering school will host the Maryland State Science Olympiad. In this event, about 15 teams, each composed of up to 15 middle and high school students, will compete in technology, laboratory and reasoning contests. Winners will advance to the National Science Olympiad.
Both events are open to press coverage. Both are designed to boost interest in science and engineering education and career opportunities among pre-college students. The Homewood campus is located at 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md. Below are a few details about each event and links to obtain further information.
