Fifty students from 12 Baltimore-area public and private
high schools will attend "Securing the Future," a
conference featuring lectures by professors, politicians,
first-responders and others in the field of homeland
security. Students will divide into discussion groups to
devise plans to institute homeland security awareness
programs in their communities and then create a proposal
for how to improve homeland security in Maryland. They will
then present their plans to a panel of Maryland security
officials who will evaluate and consider the students'
suggestions. The conference will also give students the
opportunity to talk to Johns Hopkins
admissions
counselors as well as job recruiters from homeland security
and intelligence agencies. The conference is organized by
Johns Hopkins undergraduates.
Participating schools include Baltimore City College,
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Pikesville High School,
Lansdowne High School, Park School, St Paul's School,
