The Johns Hopkins University Master of Science in Biotechnology program will hold an open house and lecture to inaugurate the availability of its new concentration and fellowships in molecular targets and drug discovery technologies. The program prepares the next generation of scientists in drug discovery technologies by integrating training and hands-on experience. While earning a master of science degree in biotechnology with a concentration in molecular targets and drug discovery technologies, fellows participate in important cancer research, work in Center for Cancer Research/National Cancer Institute laboratories, and receive paid tuition. Kenneth C. Carter, president and CEO of Avalon Pharmaceuticals, will deliver the keynote speech, "Bridging the Gap between Basic Scientific Research and Industrial Approaches to Better Medicine: The Key Role of Graduate Education." Welcoming remarks will be provided by Michael Knapp, a member of the Montgomery County Council, representing District 2; Robert Wiltrout, deputy director of science, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health; and Gary K. Ostrander, associate provost for research and chair of the Graduate Board, Johns Hopkins University.
