Avrum Burg, former speaker of the Israeli Knesset, will speak about the importance of interfaith dialogue in helping to bring about Middle East peace. Burg is the youngest speaker in the history of the Israeli Knesset and a staunch supporter of peace in the Middle East. In 1985, he was appointed by then-Prime Minister Shimon Peres to serve as his adviser on diaspora affairs, and in 1988 was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment Party slate. He was elected again in 1992 for the Labor Party, and again in 1999 for the One Israel Party. He has worked to bring about peace between Israel, its neighbors, and the Palestinians.

Hopkins Hillel and Hillel's Schusterman International Center are sponsoring Burg's lecture. Co-sponsors include the Coalition of Hopkins Activists for Israel (CHAI), Jewish Students Association, The Baltimore Jewish Council, Alpha Epsilon Pi, The College Democrats, The College Republicans, the Political Science Department, and Campus Ministries.
