The Center for Summer Learning at Johns Hopkins University will host this city-wide celebration. Speakers include Dr. Peter Beilenson, commissioner of the Baltimore City Health Department, as well as representatives from the Baltimore City Public School System, Baltimore City Police Department, PTA, and Staples. Following the speakers, guests from Staples will read to children in the classrooms. A free book distribution will also occur courtesy of Reading is Fundamental, Reach Out & Read and Enoch Pratt Free Library. Partners in The Summer Learning Campaign include the Mayor's Office, Baltimore's After School Strategy (The After-School Institute and Safe and Sound Campaign), Baltimore City Public Schools, the Center for Summer Learning, the city's Department of Recreation and Parks, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Parks and People Foundation, the Police Athletic League, YMCA of Central Maryland, the Baltimore Leaders in Action Program's (BLAP) Countdown to Kindergarten Campaign which focuses on preparing younger children for kindergarten, and various faith-based organizations.
