Known for its high caliber of faculty members with connections to local and regional engineering, high-tech and biotech companies, The Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering also is recognized as a place where its adjunct faculty publish what they practice and teach. Among this group of authors are four members of the university's Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science.

Following are four Part-Time Engineering faculty members who have published books focusing on their areas of expertise:

Ed Addison, instructor in computer science, explores the role of entrepreneurship in engineering in his book, Leveraging the Horizon: Secrets of a Serial Entrepreneur.

A senior computer scientist and long-time Part-Time Engineering instructor, Marty Hall is a leading authority in Java technology and has published four books on the topic. His latest is Marty Hall's Servlets and JavaServer Pages Training Course.

Alexander Kossiakoff, chief scientist of The Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory and current chair of Part-Time Engineering's Technical Management and Systems Engineering Programs, explores the basic principles of systems engineering in his book, Systems Engineering Principles and Practices.

Jim Spall, chair of Part-Time Engineering's Applied and Computational Mathematics Program, shares his 20-plus years of experience in the engineering arena in his book, Introduction to Stochastic Search and Optimization.

Part of The Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering, the Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science offer masters degrees in 13 distinct disciplines, as well as undergraduate programs in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and engineering science. There are currently more than 2,200 students enrolled in PTE programs at seven education centers throughout the Baltimore/Washington area.
