In conjunction with College Awareness Month in the Baltimore City Public Schools, 30 juniors and seniors from Patterson, Douglass, Southwestern and Southern high schools will spend the night in Johns Hopkins University's freshmen residence halls on Friday, Nov. 15, to experience the life of a college student first-hand. Johns Hopkins freshmen will host the high school students, leading campus tours and sharing their newfound insight into college life. Prior to their visit to Johns Hopkins, the students will be participating in a classroom workshop called "How to Get the Most Out of a College Visit," led by Kevin Cuffie of the Johns Hopkins Center for Social Organization of Schools. This event is a joint effort between Johns Hopkins' Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Future Quest, formerly known as College Quest, a new program funded by the mayor's Office of Employment and Development to promote career and collegiate opportunities among students at eight schools in Baltimore's youth empowerment zone.

Additional events coordinated by Future Quest are planned throughout College Awareness Month. Johns Hopkins students will talk with students at Highland and Lombard middle schools during the week of Nov. 18. Two separate day trips are planned for Friday, Nov. 22, when students from Southwestern High School will visit Bowie State University and students from Southern High School will visit Frostburg State University.
