What: Army ROTC commissioning ceremony

Cadets in the Johns Hopkins University ROTC program will receive their military assignments at this ceremony, which also marks the 85th anniversary of the Johns Hopkins ROTC program.

In addition to the Army ROTC cadets receiving the rank of second lieutenant, three graduates from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine will receive commissions with the rank of captain. The guest speaker, Maj. Gen. Lester Martinez-Lopez, is commander of Fort Detrick and an alumnus of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. With 23 ROTC seniors in the class of 2002, the program has almost doubled its goal of 12 cadets. Ten are from Johns Hopkins, and nine are from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; the remaining four students attend St. Mary's College of Maryland, Towson University, University of Baltimore, and University of Maryland, College Park.
