O'Neall Named Libraries' Director of Development

Patrick O'Neall, a 15-year veteran of fund raising for cultural institutions, has been appointed director of development for the Sheridan Libraries of The Johns Hopkins University.

O'Neall comes to Hopkins from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he was director of development and alumni relations for the School of Nursing. Previously, he was chief development officer for the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra in Michigan, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio and, from 1993 to 1995, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

At the Sheridan Libraries, O'Neall will direct a comprehensive development program, with responsibility for major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations and publications and special events.

Johns Hopkins is nearing completion of a $1.2 billion campaign, The Johns Hopkins Initiative. The Sheridan Libraries met their original $34 million campaign goal, but are now pursuing an expanded goal of $50 million. That new goal was set by President William R. Brody and the university's trustees in recognition of the libraries' central role in the university and the need to support new technology and other initiatives.

O'Neall is a 1975 graduate of Butler University and earned a master of arts in arts administration from Indiana University at Bloomington in 1977.

The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library.
