The Challenge of Diversity, A Talk at Johns Hopkins

Edwin J. Nichols, clinical and industrial psychologist, will give a talk, "Diversity: Our Nation's Challenge," at noon on Wednesday, April 14, in Shriver Hall on the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street, in Baltimore.

Nichols will present his unique approach to issues of cultural diversity, including workplace diversity and multi-ethnic, multi-racial, cross-cultural, gender and sexual orientation differences in order to understand the importance of multicultural sensitivity in today's environment of 'hate crimes' and harassment. He is director of Nichols and Associates Inc., an applied behavioral sciences firm providing services to Fortune 500 corporations, foreign governments, federal agencies and health and mental health systems. From 1969 until his retirement in 1989, Nichols held various posts at the National Institute of Mental Health, most recently as director of technology transfer.

Nichols was educated at Assumption College in Windsor, Canada, and Eberhardt- Karls Universitat in Tubingen, Germany. He received his doctorate in psychology and psychiatry from Leopold-Franzens Universitat in Innsbruck, Austria. His honors and awards include visiting scholar for the Rockefeller Foundation, fellow of the Austrian Ministry of Education, and public service awards from the U.S. General Services Administration, the Department of Justice and the Social Security Administration.

This lecture, co-sponsored with the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Johns Hopkins Office of Special Events. Admission is free. For further information, call the Office of Special Events at 410-516-7157.
