"Our Obsolete Embargo Against Cuba,"
A Talk at Hopkins

Wayne S. Smith, former diplomat and visiting professor of Latin American Studies at Johns Hopkins University will give a talk, "Our Obsolete Embargo Against Cuba," at the university's Homewood campus on Wednesday, April 17 at noon.

Smith began his diplomatic career in 1957 with the State Department and served in the Soviet Union, Argentina, Brazil and in Cuba. In 1982, while the department's leading expert on Cuba and chief of mission at the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, he left because of fundamental disagreements with the Reagan administration's foreign policy. Since then, he has been a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy in Washington, D.C.

Smith currently directs The Johns Hopkins University's academic exchange program with the University of Havana.

This lecture is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the university's Office of Special Events. All programs in the series are held at noon in the Clipper Room of Shriver Hall on the Homewood campus at 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Admission is free.

For information, call the Office of Special Events at (410) 516-7157.
