Maria Broom to Perform at Hopkins
The performance is part of the Wednesday Noon Series. presented by the university's Office of Special Events. All programs in the series are held at noon in the Garrett Room of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library on the university's Homewood campus at 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Admission is free.
Broom, who has appeared on television and in feature films, seeks to portray the world as a global village through music, dance and the telling of stories from Asia, Africa and the South Pacific.
Even in today's electronic age, traditional storytelling is having a resurgence, Broom says. This ancient art is found is most cultures and serves many functions: teaching morality. preserving values and history, and entertaining. Broom utilizes this oral tradition in her program.
