Building a Legacy: Evergreen Scholars at MICA
Free with museum admission

For more than four decades, the Evergreen House Foundation has been supporting exceptionally talented undergraduate students at the Maryland Institute College of Art through the annual award of a scholarship. In 2007, to mark the 55th anniversary of the Foundation, Evergreen House presents Building a Legacy: Evergreen Scholars at MICA, an exhibition of current work by five of the many MICA graduates whose training as innovative, creative and successful visual artists benefited from the Evergreen scholarship program. The artists include Richard Cleaver ('77), Rita Natarova ('02), Lauren Ross ('93), Colleen Ostrander ('95) and Nestor Topchy ('85). The exhibition is on view through June 3 during regularly scheduled museum tours.

Ukrainian Egg Painting with Nestor and Nora Topchy
Free with museum admission

Enjoy a demonstration of Pysanky, the art of Ukrainian egg decorating, with Nestor Topchy and his mother Nora. The program is offered in conjunction with the exhibition, Building a Legacy: Evergreen Scholars at MICA, on view through June 3 during regularly scheduled museum tours.

Evergreen Concert Series: Adaskin String Trio with Thomas Gallant, oboe
$15 members, $20 all others

Canada's Adaskin String Trio specializes in the rare literature for string trio and string trio plus another instrument. It will be a highlight of the season to hear them with virtuoso oboist Thomas Gallant for a performance of works by Mozart, Druschetzky, Beethoven and Taneyev. Feathers, Fins, and Fur: The Pet in Early Maryland

The result of an undergraduate course at The Johns Hopkins University, Homewood Museum's winter focus exhibition, Feathers, Fins, and Fur: The Pet in Early Maryland, continues through Saturday, March 31. Drawing on correspondence, probate inventories, newspaper ads, journals and a rich array of visual materials, the exhibition explores views of the pets and livestock that were part of early Maryland's scenery, and especially of Homewood, the 1801 country house of the Carroll family. The exhibition, presented in partnership with the Maryland SPCA, is on view through March 31 during regularly scheduled museum tours. Free admission to the museum will be granted to visitors who bring in an item from the SPCA's Animal Wish List, available online at www.mdspca.org.

Birds of Baltimore with Gregory F. Ball
Free with museum admission

Bird lovers and nature enthusiasts are invited to hear Gregory F. Ball, Johns Hopkins professor of psychological and brain sciences, present "Birds of Baltimore, past and present," an engaging illustrated lecture on Baltimore's avian community. The program augments the exhibition, Feathers, Fins, and Fur: The Pet in Early Maryland, on view through March 31 during regularly scheduled museum tours.

Find A Friend for Life with the Maryland SPCA
Free with museum admission

Find a friend for life while touring Homewood's winter focus exhibition, Feathers, Fins, and Fur: The Pet in Early Maryland. On alternate Saturdays in February and March, adoptable pets from the Maryland SPCA's adoption center will be featured in Homewood's wine cellar. Already have a pet? Not looking for a furry family member? Make a pet's wish come true by donating much-needed supplies from the SPCA's Animal Wish List, available online at www.mdspca.org, and receive free admission to the museum.

Guitarist Lukasz Kuropaczewski is an exceptional new talent in the guitar world. He has been described as "a master technician with artistic maturity well beyond his years." He and virtuoso flutist Anastasia Petanova make a return appearance at Homewood for an inspired — and inspiring — performance of works by Paganini, de Falla, Piazzolla, Gismonti and Beaser. Discover the over 200-year history of the landscape connecting the significant collections of American decorative arts at Homewood House and the Baltimore Museum of Art on this popular walking tour. Walter Jones Tells Aesop's Fables

Join professional storyteller and musician Walter Jones of the Griot Society of Maryland as he retells a selection of Aesop's best-loved fables with a narrative flair that brings these classic animal stories to life. The program augments the exhibition, Feathers, Fins, and Fur: The Pet in Early Maryland, on view through March 31 during regularly scheduled museum tours.

L'Armonia de Cieli, a five-person ensemble specializing in Renaissance and early Baroque music, will perform works by Dowland, Bataille, Hume, Praetorius and Huygens. A reception with the musicians in the wine cellar follows the performance. Reservations required; call 410-516-5589.

2007 Baltimore's Great Architecture lecture series:
The Architecture of Agricultural Buildings in Maryland

$20 members and students, $25 all others

Homewood House Museum and Hampton National Historic Site present a one-day symposium focusing on the domestic and agricultural structures that helped support the farming operations at early Baltimore's country estates. The five talks — covering farmstead layout, Riversdale plantation, Maryland barns, Hampton outbuildings, and Hampton's geothermal HVAC system — will commence at The Johns Hopkins University's Merrick Barn, original to the Homewood property, and continue at Hampton, followed by a tour of the estate. This marks the seventh edition of Homewood's annual architectural lecture series. AIA and ASID members will receive 1 AIA/CES credits for each lecture with registration.

Peabody at Homewood Concert: Sonya Chung, violin
$15 members, $20 all others.
3-concert series: $40 members, $55 all others

Virtuoso violinist Sonya Chung attends the Peabody Conservatory as a full scholarship student of Violaine Melan‡on. At her first Homewood appearance, she will perform works by Bach, Ysa e, BartĒk and Shulamit Ran. A reception with Chung in the wine cellar follows the performance. Hours of Operation: Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

Tours: Tours of Evergreen are offered on the hour with the last tour beginning at 3 p.m. Tours of Homewood are offered every half hour with the last tour beginning at 3:30 p.m.
