Benefit for Evergreen House
Celebrates Art, Wine, and Food

Lovers of art, wine, and food are invited to enjoy an evening of regional Italian wine and cuisine while raising money for Evergreen House's artist-in-residence programs at artUncorked, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, in Evergreen's Carriage House, 4545 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. The evening is co-hosted and sponsored by The Wine Source. Reservations are limited. Admission is $60 for members, $65 for all others. For information and reservations, call 410-516-0341 or visit www.jhu.edu/historichouses.

"This is a great opportunity to have fun, learn about wines, enjoy fabulous food, and meet some new people in support of a great cause," Evergreen curator Jackie O'Regan said.

The theme of the evening, Viva Italia! Red, White & Evergreen, salutes Evergreen's former owners, John Work Garrett, who was U.S. ambassador to Italy from 1929 to 1933, and his stylish wife, arts patron and cultural maverick Alice Warder Garrett, who brought European flare to Baltimore's social scene with her glamorous and flamboyant parties.

Guests will learn about more than a dozen of Italy's most famous wine regions — from Veneto and Piedmont to Tuscany, Campania, and the islands of Sardinia and Sicily — and will sample more than 60 wines, from Sangiovese to Trebbiano and the wide viticultural variations that lie in between. Traditional and innovative dishes inspired by ingredients typical of each Italian region will be served by some of Baltimore's finest restaurants, including Abacrombie, Dogwood Deli, Gertrude's, Iggies, Ixia, The Oceanaire Seafood Room and more.

In addition to musical entertainment, guests will enjoy live and silent auctions with the chance to bid on contemporary art, getaway vacation packages, private wine tasting dinners, and vintage and collectable wines.

Evergreen House is at once an intimate collection of fine and decorative art and a vibrant, innovative venue for contemporary artists, musicians, and scholars. The museum's artist-in-residence programs provide the opportunity for emerging and mature artists to live, think, and create within the extraordinary environment of Evergreen and its rich historic collections and gardens. The museum then connects these artists with the public through contemporary exhibitions — such as the biennial Sculpture at Evergreen exhibition, on view through Oct. 15 — and creative community and school collaborations.

Support for artUncorked is provided by The Wine Source, B. Creative Group Inc., Courtesy Parking, Mount Royal Printing Co, the Urbanite and WYPR-FM.
