House Guests 2006: Views of the Mid-Atlantic and House
Lights and Furniture Music
Free with museum admission
The works of Evergreen's 2005 and 2006 artists-in-
residence, painter Amy Chan and installation artist Richard
Torchia, are the subject House Guests 2006, the
museum's annual artist-in-residence exhibition series. In
Chan's Views of the Mid-Atlantic, the familiar surroundings
of suburban America fracture into isolated islands
separated by oceans of neutral space. Torchia's House
Lights and Furniture Music: treatments for a suite of
shaded rooms offers a series of site-specific
"interventions" that invite visitors to engage in
Evergreen's profusion of cultural and historical
references. The House Guests exhibitions are on view during
regularly scheduled museum tours.
