Ailey II to Perform at Johns Hopkins University

The acclaimed dance troupe Ailey II will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, in Shriver Hall Auditorium on the Homewood campus of The Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

Showcasing the talent of some of America's best young dancers, Ailey II is the junior company of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Dancers typically spend two years in the troupe, gaining performing experience and improving their skills with the guidance of artistic director Sylvia Waters. Many Ailey II dancers are chosen to join the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and many more go on to be successful dancers, teachers and choreographers.

Outreach is central to Ailey II's mission and the troupe has received numerous honors for its performances at schools and for community groups throughout the country. For its Shriver Hall appearance, Ailey II plans to primarily perform choreography by Alvin Ailey. Its current national tour is sponsored by MetLife Foundation. Additional information is available at www.alvinailey.org/ailey2.asp and at www.jhu.edu/special/artist.html. A high resolution digital photo is available by e-mailing amycowles@jhu.edu.

Tickets are available in advance at $26 for general admission; $24 senior citizens and Johns Hopkins faculty, staff and parents; $22 for full-time Johns Hopkins students with ID. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door for an additional $2 per ticket in each category. To order tickets or for information, call the Office of Special Events at (443) 287-9900. This event is part of Family Weekend on the Homewood campus.
