Tenor Issachah Savage to Perform at Johns Hopkins

Tenor Issachah Savage will perform A Journey in Song at noon on Wednesday, April 2, in Shriver Hall Auditorium on the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

Savage will perform music from the baroque period to the 20th century, capturing a myriad of musical styles. The first half of the program includes works by Gluck, Handel, Schumann, Schubert, Ravel, Tosti and Verdi. Following intermission, Savage will sing more popular and spiritual songs by Lehar, Charles, Dungan, and Bonds.

A native Philadelphian, Savage graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where his focus was vocal and theater arts. He will receive his bachelor's degree in music from Morgan State University in May. He was a featured artist in the world premiere concert and recording of Wynton Marsalis' All Rise with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lincoln Center Jazz Band and recently returned from France, where he participated in two performances of All Rise. Savage has performed in Mendelssohn's Elijah and Handel's Messiah with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Mozart's Requiem with The Peabody Chamber Ensemble, and Gershwin's Porgy and Bess with the Philadelphia Opera Company. He is a scholar artist of the Marian Anderson Historical Society of Philadelphia and the recipient of a Philadelphia Pro Arts scholarship award. He has performed for master classes with Billy Taylor, Gregg Baker, Simon Estes and the late William Warfield.

This performance is co-sponsored by the Peggy and Yale Gordon Trust and is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, now in its 37th season of cultural programming on the Homewood campus. Noon Series events are open to the public and admission is free. For further information, call the Office of Special Events at 410-516-7157.
