"Shakespeare's Spirited Women" at Johns Hopkins

Cherie Weinert will perform her one-woman show, "Shakespeare's Spirited Women," at noon on Wednesday, April 16, in Shriver Hall Auditorium on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

In this return engagement at Johns Hopkins in celebration of Shakespeare's birthday, Weinert will bring to life passionate and strong-minded heroines -- Lady Macbeth, Juliet, Viola, and both Portias. Wearing a basic neutral costume and using only a small bench as a prop, Weinert portrays scenes between the performer and characters who are unseen but nevertheless share the stage.

Weinert earned her master's degree in theater from California State University at San Jose and has performed numerous leading roles at universities and regional theaters in northern California. In Baltimore, she has performed many principal roles at Theatre Hopkins directed by Suzanne Pratt, including characters created by Shakespeare, Jonson, Ibsen, Chekov, Coward, Moliere, Wilder and many others. Weinert has also performed in productions of the Fell's Point Corner Theater, the Vagabonds Theater, Towson University's Maryland Arts Festival, the Smithsonian's Baird Theater, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. The Baltimore Chronicle named her Outstanding Actress of 1998. Most recently, she portrayed Bessie in Theatre Hopkins' production of Marvin's Room.

This performance is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by The Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, now in its 37th season of cultural programming on the Homewood campus. This event is cosponsored by Theatre Hopkins and admission is free. For further information, call the Office of Special Events at 410-516-7157.
