Maggie Thomas: The Evergreen Paintings and Mary Woodall: Elements and Other Work
A dual exhibition by two artists, each using different media to examine our relationship to and encounters with the natural world. Maggie Thomas is a California-based painter and was the Evergreen House artist-in-residence during summer 2002. Mary Woodall is a Baltimore-based photographer whose work examines the barriers we place between ourselves and nature. The exhibition opened July 10. Admission is free to Evergreen House members, $3 for the general public.

Sunday, Sept. 7, 2 p.m.
The Landscape Tradition in American Art Bakst Theatre
Doctoral candidate Susan Ross from the Department of the History of Art at Johns Hopkins University will present a gallery talk on the history of landscape imagery in America. The talk focuses on the development of the landscape tradition in American art through the 19th and 20th centuries, examining the relationship between landscape painting and the evocation of national identity and shared experience through art. Free.

Evergreen Concert Series: New Century Saxophone Quartet

Opening reception: Conversations
Evergreen's fall exhibition explores influences and exchanges between artists and their teachers, family members and mentors in the making of art. The exhibition will feature work by more than 90 artists, including William Kentridge, Joyce Scott, Raoul Middelman, Jim Hennessey, Grace Hartigan, Donald Baechler and Gregory Gillespie. Curated by Barry Nemett of the Maryland Institute College of Art, the exhibition continues through Jan. 4, 2004. The opening reception is free. After Oct. 9, admission is free for Evergreen House members and $3 for the general public.

Artist and curator Barry Nemett will discuss his work and the ideas behind the exhibition Conversations. Free.

Evergreen Concert Series: Daedalus Quartet.
Carriage House
The Daedalus Quartet is one of America's outstanding young string quartets, having won the grand prize and swept all the special prizes at the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The group is made up of Kyu-Young Kim and Min-Young Kim, brother and sister violinists who alternate on first violin; cellist Raman Ramakirshnan; and violist Jessica Thompson. $15 per person. Greater Baltimore History Alliance Holiday Open House
In conjunction with the Greater Baltimore History Alliance, Evergreen House will be decorated for the holidays and open for tours featuring light refreshments and holiday music. $1.

A historic house owned by The Johns Hopkins University, Evergreen is located between Loyola College and the College of Notre Dame. It is 15 minutes from Baltimore's Inner Harbor and easily accessible from I-695 and I-83. Ample free parking is available at the museum.

Evergreen House is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tours are guided and begin on the hour. The last daily tour begins at 3 p.m. Please allow an hour and a half for your visit. Evergreen House is closed on major holidays. Tours for groups of 20 or more must be scheduled in advance with Nancy Powers at (410) 516-0341. The cost of admission for individual tours is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for students and children over the age of 6. Evergreen House members are admitted free.
