Choral Performance at Hopkins Will Salute
American Music

The Baltimore Choral Arts Society Professional Chamber Chorus will celebrate American music with a performance at noon on Wednesday, April 3, in Shriver Hall on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

The program, "American Voices: Music of Our Time, " will include the playful madrigals of Gregg Smith, traditional spirituals and jazz by Duke Ellington, George and Ira Gershwin and Harold Arlen. The Chamber Chorus is led by Tom Hall, the group's conductor and music director who has added more than 100 pieces to the chorus' repertoire since beginning his tenure in 1982.

The Baltimore Choral Arts Society is marking its 36th season as one of Maryland's premiere cultural institutions. The society's Full Chorus and Orchestra, Professional Chamber Chorus, and Educational Outreach Ensemble perform locally in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, in Kraushaar Auditorium at Goucher College, and the Gordon Center for Performing Arts, with performances in Washington, New York and Europe as well. Each year, the Choral Arts Society is featured in an hour-long special, Christmas with Choral Arts, on WMAR-TV, Channel 2. Concerts are also broadcast locally on WBJC-FM, and are broadcast nationally on Public Radio International's "The First Art" and on National Public Radio's "Performance Today."

This event is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by The Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, now in its 36th season of cultural programming on the Homewood campus. Wednesday Noon Series events are open to the public and admission is free. For information, call the Office of Special Events
