Violinist Annaliesa Place, accompanied by pianist Christie Julien, will give a performance at noon on Wednesday, April 11, in Shriver Hall on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore. Place, winner of the 2000-2001 Yale Gordon Concerto Competition at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, and Julien will perform Fantasia in C for Violin and Piano by Franz Schubert and the Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano by Cesar Franck. Place began her musical studies at age 3, learning the Suzuki Method. At 12, she debuted with the Heidelberg Symphony performing the Bruch Violin Concerto. In addition to the Gordon Competition win, Place was a finalist in the Julius Stulberg International String Competition and won top prizes in the Ohio Chamber Orchestra's Young Artist Program and the Akron Symphony Scholarship and Marbury Violin competitions. She has appeared with orchestras around the country and has recently completed her bachelor of music degree at the Peabody Conservatory as a student of Victor Danchenko. French-born pianist Julien made her debut appearance at the age of 12 on French National Television and is a winner of the Steinway Competition, among other awards and scholarships. She currently studies with renowned pianist Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute, where she is an artist diploma candidate. This performance is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, now in its 35th season of cultural programming on the Homewood campus.
