Noam Chomsky, George Mitchell:
Together at Hopkins
Professor Noam Chomsky (pictured at left), the outspoken MIT
linguistics professor and prominent political dissident, gave a standing-room-only crowd
his views on globalization, military intervention, sovereignty and world trade. View his

George Mitchell, (pictured at right) the former Senator from Maine, described his experiences in
brokering the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland and offered insights on how
longstanding, bloody ethnic conflicts might be peacefully settled. Hear first-hand how
Mitchell negotiated a peace after 800 years of ethnic and religious warfare.

Both men were at Johns Hopkins University as part of the 2000 Johns Hopkins
Symposium on Foreign Affairs, an annual speakers' series
that focuses on an important international topic. This year's topic is "Globalization: The
political, cultural and economic integration of the International system."
Chomsky spoke on Monday, March 13, 2000. Mitchell spoke on Wednesday,
March 15, 2000.
