Peabody Ragtime Ensemble Lunchtime Performance at
Hopkins
The Peabody Ragtime Ensemble will give a performance, "Ragtime, Dixieland,
and All That Jazz: Vintage Jazz from 1890-1940," at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 2, in
Shriver Hall on the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St.
in Baltimore.
One of the region's premier "little big bands," the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble has
entertained audiences for 25 years with its ragtime, big band, swing, dixieland, jazz, and
contemporary music. Under the leadership of Ed Goldstein, the ensemble has worked
with artists including Eubie Blake, Roberta Flack, Hal Linden and the Preservation Hall
Jazz Band. They have toured throughout New England and the former Soviet Union and
were honored as feature artists at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. The ensemble has made
three records.
The Peabody Ragtime Ensemble performance is part of the Wednesday Noon
Series presented by the Johns Hopkins University Office of
Special Events. Admission is free. For information, call the Office of Special Events
at 410-516-7157.
U.S. recording companies have funded (in part) the instrumental music for this
performance with the cooperation of local 40-543, American Federation of
Musicians.
