Favella Lyrica Presents "The Singer's Art" at Evergreen

The Evergreen House Concert Series concludes its 1999-2000 Carriage House Concert Series with a performance by the Favella Lyrica Ensemble at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 14, in the Carriage House at Evergreen, 4545 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.

Favella Lyrica is Italian for "lyric speech," and the group tries to capture the communicative power of 17th and 18th century vocal chamber music. Their programming has been widely praised across the country for its variety and imagination. Mezzo soprano Pamela Dellal, soprano Pamela Murray, and harpsichordist Michael Beattie have performed under such conductors as Seiji Ozawa, Christopher Hogwood, and Roger Norrington. The ensemble's two CDs, Sweet Torment and Blind Love, Cruel Beauty: Vocal Duets of G.F. Handel have won critical acclaim. Their program on April 14 will include pieces by Claudio Monteverdi, Nicol• Fontei, Barbara Strozzi, Nicholas Lanier, and Henry Purcell.

The Evergreen Carriage House Concert Series is sponsored by the Evergreen House Foundation in honor of its founder, Alice Warder Garrett. Garrett, who lived at Evergreen House from 1920 to 1952, was a patron of the arts who sponsored a string quartet in residence each spring and fall from 1928 to 1942.

Admission to the concert is $10 per person and includes a reception after the performance to meet the artists. For reservations or information, call 410-516-0341.
