Suggestions for Coping
The university's Office of Human Services has compiled these
suggestions for coping with emotions
raised by the events of Sept. 11 and their aftermath.

programs
The university's Faculty and Staff Assistance Program has
additional information on handling stress and trauma. The
information is available in faxable or downloadable form.
Please call 410-955-1220 or 443-997-3800 and ask for Tips
on Coping with Traumatic Events, Guidelines for the Hopkins
Community During this Tragedy, and Some Guidelines for
Classroom Discussion. WORKlife Programs has faxable
information on dealing with the crisis for parents and
teachers (K to 12), and information on talking with
children and adolescents. Call 443-997-6605.
Trauma/grief support groups
Faculty and Staff Assistance Program counselors are running
two on-going trauma/grief support groups on Fridays in
response to the terrorist attacks. One group will meet on
the East Baltimore campus from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the
550 Building, Suite 403. The other group will meet at
Eastern High School, Suite C 100, at the same time. Both
groups will meet on a weekly basis. We ask that you
register as space is limited. Those interested in attending
may register by calling Ms. Tovey Dixon at 410-955-1220.
Please indicate if you will be attending the East Baltimore
or Eastern High School group.
Information tables at JHMI
There will be information tables in the Broadway Corridor at
the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions on Monday and
Tuesday, Sept. 24-25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The
tables will have information and handouts on coping with
trauma. The tables l are sponsored by the Critical Incident
Stress Service and FASAP.
