May 9, 2007 | Board Room Shriver Hall | 3:00 p.m. The meeting of the Academic Council was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Dean Nicholas Jones. In addition to Dean Jones, those attending were Dean Adam Falk, Acting Dean of Faculty Gabrielle Spiegel, Associate Dean Andrew Douglas, Professors Gregory Ball, Robert Cammarata, Victor Corces, Paul Feldman, Frances Ferguson, John Marshall, Charles Meneveau, and Sarah Woodson. President William Brody, Provost Steven Knapp, and Professors Paul Dagdigian, Veena Das, Ali Khan, and Jerry Prince were absent. Remarks by the Secretary. Professor Ball recommended that the Administration and Bylaws subcommittee's summary of the re-structuring of the Academic Council and the Bagger committee report be presented to the Krieger and Whiting Schools chairs meetings. When Dr. Ball asked if everyone was comfortable with this going to the chairs meetings, Council was in consensus. Dean Falk said it is anticipated that the restructuring of Academic Council will be brought to the Faculty Assembly in the fall. A Council member suggested making it clear to the chairs that these are 4 major changes. The appointment of Brad Leithauser as full Professor in The Writing Seminars effective July 1, 2007 was approved. The appointment of Mary Jo Salter as full Professor in The Writing Seminars effective July 1, 2007 was approved. The promotion of Dr. Doug Barrick to Professor in the Department of Biophysics effective July 1, 2007 was approved. The promotion of Dr. Jason Eisner to tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science effective July 1, 2007 was approved. It was reported that the appointment of Dr. Luann Becker as Principal Research Scientist in the Center for Astrophysical Sciences in the Department of Physics and Astronomy was approved by the Board of Review. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
