The meeting of the Academic Council was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Dean Adam Falk. In addition to Dean Falk, those attending were Dean Nicholas Jones, Acting Dean of Faculty Gabrielle Spiegel, Associate Dean Andrew Douglas, Professors Gregory Ball, Robert Cammarata, Victor Corces, Paul Dagdigian, Veena Das, Paul Feldman, Ali Khan, Stuart Leslie, John Marshall, Charles Meneveau, Jerry Prince and Sarah Woodson. President William Brody and Provost Steven Knapp were absent.
Approval of minutes. The minutes for the meeting of October 4, 2006 were approved as amended.
Remarks by the Secretary. Professor Ball thanked everyone who attended the Faculty Assembly meeting on Monday, October 9. At the dinner meeting on October 10 there was a wide-ranging discussion about issues raised at the Faculty Assembly meeting, the organization of Academic Council, and interdisciplinary centers and programs. Professor Das plans to discuss interdepartmental relations at the graduate level during her term as Secretary in the second semester.
It was reported that the appointment of Dr. Saame Raza (Raz) Shaikh as Lecturer, part-time, in Biology for 9/1/06 - 12/31/06 was approved by the Appointments and Promotions subcommittee.
The Deans reported that the undergraduate Curriculum committee wants to review all of the area designators for undergraduate courses.
The meeting adjourned at 4:32 p.m.
