The appointment of Dr. Adam Riess as Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy effective January 1, 2006 was approved. Remarks by the Chair. Provost Knapp read about the minority views from the Appointment and Promotions Procedures document noting that it is at the chair's discretion to include a minority report. Council members commented that the chair should make a special effort not to count him or herself as one of the participants in that conversation and that there are a few inconsistencies in our procedures. Dean Falk said he would like to collect those instances and report back to Council in the fall. The Provost reported that the search for the next Dean of the School of Public Health is near completion. The search committee for the Dean of the KSAS has been actively meeting. It is in the internal consultation phase and has met with department chairs for their input. At its next meeting the committee will be considering a position profile. A search consultant has been engaged for this search. Provost Knapp reported that Professors Victor Corces from Biology and Sarah Woodson from Biophysics have been elected to five-year terms on the Council. He reminded Council members about the election of one-year members and noted that Sally Marcin will circulate electronically the list of those eligible to serve. He then reminded Council members to check with potential nominees to make sure they are willing to serve and that the aim is to look for balance. The meeting adjourned at 6:06 p.m.
