Alumni, Parents and Volunteers at Bucknell University, has
been appointed executive director of
alumni relations at
The Johns Hopkins University.
Flinchbaugh, who will join Johns Hopkins on Dec. 5, will be responsible for building and strengthening the university's relationship with its more than 123,000 alumni around the world. Heading a staff of 15 and working closely with the university's Alumni Council, he will take the lead in designing alumni programs and in supporting the activities of the association's 44 U.S. and 25 international chapters, said Robert R. Lindgren, vice president of development and alumni relations. "David is regarded as a national leader among private university alumni professionals and is well-known for his innovations at Bucknell," Lindgren said. "His commitment to constant improvement makes David an especially good fit with our alumni leadership and our dedicated alumni relations staff," Lindgren said. "His collaboration with them will make our already outstanding alumni program at Johns Hopkins even better." Flinchbaugh, who graduated from Bucknell in 1982, has been alumni director at his alma mater since 1999. He has built programs in career services, business networking, alumni volunteerism, student involvement and other areas that have solidified alumni involvement with and support of the university. "Growing up north of Baltimore in a medical family, Johns Hopkins Medicine has always been a part of my life, and several generations of my family have graduated from the [university's] Krieger and Whiting schools," Flinchbaugh said. "Previous stops in my career brought me to Washington and Baltimore, where I met many JHU alumni and ained an appreciation of the breadth of Johns Hopkins programs. "I am thrilled to lead this exceptional alumni relations team," he said, "and look forward to working with the Alumni Council and staff to take new initiatives in alumni relations to the world stage." Before returning to Bucknell, Flinchbaugh spent 12 years in marketing at IBM, ultimately as a marketing manager for the education market. He also was national accounts director at Caliber Learning Network in Baltimore and North America education business manager for Information Builders Inc. During those years, he served Bucknell as an alumni volunteer and leader at the local and national levels.
