Spaghetti Bridge Building
Freshman students in the course, "What
is Engineering?" competed to see who could build the strongest bridge
out of pasta noodles. (photo by Alex Lim)
Each year, the freshman engineering students at Johns Hopkins University
compete in a contest to see who can build the strongest bridge out of
spaghetti noodles. The bridges can weigh no more than 750 grams (or 26
ounces) but must be able to hold at least 10 kilograms, or 22 pounds.
The winning bridge this year held 56 kilograms or 123 pounds.
To experience the spaghetti bridge contest, watch
this short video.
