Chitra Raman

Sleepsong for My Child

Rock
Rock
Rockababy Rock
Rock my throat is rock
Your screams lie splintered, rock
My dreams are frozen rock

Let me fold you in my night
And show you fields of light
Walk in your deepest eye of quiet
Help me in, my darling, rock
Dark wet lashes rest their flight
Your sleeping face is calm and bright
As if there were no cause for fright
Your fingers around mine lock
We'll wake together, you and I,
Face the world that makes you cry
And fight to find the reason why
While you cling to my lullaby

Rock
Rock
Rockababy rock ...
