Our mission at Autism Netverse is to provide and opportunity for individuals with autism to be heard.

We strive to increase the awareness of autism worldwide, inspire more individuals with autism to express themselves, and celebrate the literary and artistic work of individuals with autism.

Individuals with autism have difficulty with verbal communication and language, thus writing and artwork may prove to be an easier form of expression than speaking. Many individuals with autism have yet to realize their capability to write or do artwork. Furthermore, the opportunities for autistic individuals to be published are limited. The Autism Netverse Web site and research project strives to provide an opportunity for individuals with autism to express themselves.

During my research (under the direction of Dr. Manual Casanova, a neuroscientist formerly at the Medical College of Georgia, and now at the University of Louisville) while I searched the Internet and libraries for poetry by individuals with autism, what I found were exquisite, expressive, but scattered works. Rich with original style, unique language, and visual imagery, each poem conveyed a picture of how individuals with autism may view reality differently from others. Exposing myself to the works by autistic individuals educated me about autism, and can do the same for the rest of the world.
