Oddly Portrayed

Autism is a part of me but doesn't reflect whom I really am inside.
Some say I am broken and that the core of me has died.

It is a misconception of me, for I am not broken like a toy.
I feel the depths of emotions such as sadness and joy.

My expressions of what are in me are stilted and delayed.
They dwell strong, but are oddly portrayed.

I might appear to others as if I am uninterested, rude, and void of true
conversation
Yet inside of me confusions come, with strong need of self-preservation

It is from this need to exist with dignity, that rudeness may appear,
Or from lack of understanding what others may have meant so dear.

It is not with intent to be of rudeness in nature, or lack of response to
another
Inside of me this anxiety causes great fear that crushes and smothers

Yet in true I might enjoy the words of the person who tried to interact
But I lacked ability to foster the flow and keep the words intact

Saddened when they walked away wanting it to never end,
For inside of me I might have felt as though you were my friend.
