The Department offers three different graduate degrees: the Ph.D., the M.S.E. (Master of Science in Engineering), and the M.M.S.E. (Master of Materials Science and Engineering). The Ph.D. and the M.S.E. can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. Financial aid is available only for candidates admitted to the full-time Ph.D. program.

The deadlines to apply to the Department of Materials Science & Engineering are October 15, 2008 for the Spring 2009 semester and January 17, 2009 for the Fall 2009 semester.

A complete graduate application consists of:

*$75.00 Application Fee - THE $75.00 APPLICATION FEE IS AUTOMATICALLY WAIVED FOR ALL U.S. CITIZENS.
*Completed On-line application (which includes the Statement of Purpose)
*Two letters of recommendation (they should come from faculty members who are acquainted with you and your academic work).
*Official GRE (general test scores) (no minimum requirement).

*Full-time graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. degree are eligible for an 80 percent tuition remission, with the student's research adviser paying the additional 20 percent of tuition and a stipend from their research contracts and grants. For full-time Ph.D. students, the stipend is $24,600.00.

The M.M.S.E. is offered through the Engineering and Applied Science Programs for Professionals of the Whiting School of Engineering.
