DISCUSSION

The meeting began with a brief update of the plan and the previous day's meetings, including yesterday's Community Focus Group Meeting. The next community meeting is planned for January 26th at St.Phillip and James.

There was continued discussion about the redesign of Charles Street. The idea of Charles Street tunneling under the 34th Street intersection keeps popping up occasionally. Even though the 34th Street plaza could extend over to the Homewood Campus, the resulting character of Charles Street just before and after that intersection is thought to be compromised greatly.

The issue of where the Hopkins Shuttle should start and line up has still not been resolved. Does it have to go to Homewood proper, or just stop on Charles and St. Paul?

Discussion continued about the possible alignment of 31st Street into Museum Drive. If the connection were designed as a bridge, the natural area of the Wyman Dell could connect to the area north of Museum Drive along Charles Street and open a pedestrian passage beneath the street. This could contribute to an increased use of Wyman Dell and therefore heighten safety in the area. The connection would also provide a more straightforward pedestrian crossing at 31st and Museum Drive

Respectfully submitted,
