Meeting Report

PROJECT NAME: Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus Plan
PROJECT NUMBER: Ayers/Saint/Gross No. 9895.00
MEETING DATE/PLACE: November 5, 1999 / JHU The Great Hall
SUBJECT: Arts & Sciences and Engineering Faculty Chairs
ATTENDEES: Faculty Chairs
DISCUSSION

After an introduction by Herb Kessler, Adam reviewed the Master Plan process to date. He discussed the findings from the observation phase, the principles that were developed and the intentions of the concept plan. After this presentation he opened the floor to questions.

A lot of concern was expressed about the lack of faculty input into the process. ASG agreed to distribute to each of the chairs a copy of the concept plan with explanatory keys and text for their review.

The importance of maintaining the chemistry loading dock was discussed. If reoriented or altered from it's current form, it needs to be able to expand or at least maintain its current capacity.

Handicap access to the Upper Quad is now very difficult, and needs to be improved.

JHU should think about the incorporation of childcare facilities in their future planning. It is a critical element to campus life that is missing now, and should be planned for along with future growth.

There is great need for pedestrian and bike paths along San Martin Drive.

Many perceive there to be security issues with the woodlands along Stoney Run. It was suggested that if the woodlands were made to be more accessible and inviting, more people would enjoy them and therefore create a safer environment.

Respectfully submitted,
AYERS/SAINT/GROSS, INC.
