DISCUSSION
Adam reviewed the schedule and major issues the team has been
working with since the last meeting. Adam then
summarized the West Precinct area including trails along Stoney
Run, crosswalks and woodland quality issues. He
explained the design team's intent to pull the qualities of the
woodland into the central campus area. It was stressed
that the study of the Stoney Run area needed to be linked into a
study of the regional system. If the two are not
studied at the same time, work on a small area would be in vain
because of poor maintenance up or down stream.
Restoration of the woodland would have to begin with woodland
stewardship studies. Concerns about safety in the
Stoney Run area were discussed.
The new option for the Garland quadrangle was discussed and
presented to the group. Concerns about the proximity
of the field to the buildings was discussed, particularly concern
for lacrosse balls.
Concern for the landscaping around the Carnegie Building was
expressed.
Eastern High School identity issues were discussed including the
idea of renaming the site. The Hopkins Waverly
Campus was suggested.
The Open Space Implementation project was reviewed. A Town Hall
was scheduled for March 10, 2000 to brief
the Hopkins community on the project as well. There was a
discussion of the parking situation for the university
over the summer. There is a special task force looking at
opportunities for remote surface parking near the campus
that would be serviced by a shuttle.
Given the intense scheduling pressures created by the Open Space
Implementation project, it was agreed that the
Architectural Guidelines and the Way-Finding Study portions of
the overall Campus Plan will be extended into the
summer months.
