DISCUSSION

Adam reviewed the composite plan and stressed the importance of the West Precinct as a resource to the University.

Doug Hays then went into more detail about the current state of the Wyman Park / Stoney Run area, and the basis of the design intent for this natural area. This included the recommendation to initiate a study of the woodland area and water quality of Stoney Run, along with the development of paths through the area that would make it a more inviting recreational area. Current problems in the area include invasive, exotic vegetation and areas with erosion problems. There is a general desire for increased foot traffic through the woodland to increase the perception of safety.

The question was raised as to where the northern and southern boundaries of these studies should be. It was suggested that the stream basin needed to be considered as a whole, not just the portion adjacent to the JHU Homewood Campus. This would insure that any improvements to the area would not be negated by practices above or below the Hopkins campus.

The improvements along San Martin (sidewalks, clearing of undergrowth) would require coordination with the city.

Respectfully submitted,
